Panel “What is the Worth of Design” Comments Off

I’m in the Bay Area to moderate an IxDA panel “What is the Worth of Design” on Wednesday, June 25 and also visit with some friends and colleagues in business/design/innovation. I’m excited about the panel - we’ve got some super smart panelists - Brandon Schauer, Nathan Shedroff, and Rajan Dev all have strong perspectives on business + design and I’m looking forward to a great conversation. Thanks to dani malik for inviting me to participate…

If you can make it tomorrow night, be sure to say ‘hi’!

Heading to Vancouver tomorrow Comments Off

I’m teaching a 1/2 day workshop Business of Experience: Hands-On Methods to Increase Your Influence at DocTrain West this Friday…if you’re in Vancouver and want to hang out, I’m around a bit Thursday evening and Friday afternoon….

Boy, I used to have more spare time Comments Off

Just thinking about current demands, and the halcyon days when I could take a look at the DUX 2003 conference site (where I chaired a panel session on constraints) and think that just the right thing to do was create this. Of course, a couple months later I went and started my own company, so my bandwidth for visual puns has dwindled.

Heading to Miami Comments Off

I’ll be in Miami this week for the Information Architecture Summit. I’ll be teaching a day-long workshop on the Business of Experience: Building Buy-in So You Can Deliver Great Products and Services. During the main conference, I’m also talking about a model for designers to think about business in a more concrete, granular way to help practitioners target their efforts. Should be fun!

CanUX 2007 - the Canadian User Experience Workshop Comments Off

At work, we run an annual user experience workshop in Banff, Alberta, Canada. This year, CanUX is November 25-27. We have some fantastic speakers - with best-selling author Lou Rosenfeld and prolific design thought leader David Armano providing our keynotes, and industry leaders like accessibility and design expert Derek Featherstone, tagging authority Gene Smith, and brainstorming innovators Kes and Sue Sampanthar joining us. We also have the privilege to work with the on-site Banff Leadership Arts Ensemble, an amazing group of people that offer executive leadership development through creative endeavors. I’ll be speaking as well, sharing some of the same thoughts on the Business of Experience that I’ll be sharing in Germany and Italy.

Early registration ends September 28th, and space is limited to just 70 attendees, so register soon. Details and registration are at www.canux2007.com and you can get a $50 discount on the already reasonable cost by using discount code CNXJM.

Keynote at Italian IA Summit Comments Off

I’ve been invited to share some thoughts as a keynote speaker at the Italian IA Summit in Trento, Italy on November 16-17. It looks like a great lineup is coming together there…I’m excited to see what else is on tap.

I’ll be speaking about the Business of Experience, sharing thoughts on business fluency and how user experience practitioners can increase their influence in the organizations they work with.

Speaking in Germany in November 0

I’m excited to be heading to Germany to share ideas about user experience, design thinking, and innovation in Stuttgart on November 9 & 10 at the German IA conference…I’ll be giving a talk, and also sharing a workshop on the Business of Experience. If you’re able to make the conference, it would be great to see you there!

New site for The Overlap Comments Off

Wondering what design can have to do with being a CEO? The Overlap is a 50 person conversation I started in 2006 with Victor Lombardi and brought to fruition with co-conspirators like Steve Portigal, Niti Bhan, and Rosa Wu. Michael Dila took on the task of continuing the conversation in 2007, and Overlap happened again in June this year. Unfortunately, it was during family obligations for me, so I’m thrilled to see the great video content that Michael and his crew have just posted for Overlap 2007. This includes thoughts from business design leaders that offer some great insights into how design is relevant for business. Jeanne Liedtka’s session is amazing….looking forward to hearing the rest.
