  • Superstruct - Scenario Planning Game from IFTF - Institute for the Future runs Superstruct, a massive multiplayer scenario planning game focused on 5 key "superthreats" herald extinction for humanity
  • Profile: Majora Carter - BusinessWeek - Got to spend some time with Majora at Overlap 08. What she's done and is doing is pretty inspiring. More interestingly is the amazing group of ppl around her, starting with her husband James…a quiet rock star.
  • First look at Windows 7's User Interface - Ars Technica covers the PDC unveiling of the Windows 7 UI. Interesting choices…since there aren't major architectural changes under the hood (from Vista) then the team has been able to focus more on UX. Not much eathshattering, but it looks much more thought out.
  • Design researchers: A tablet to call your own - Core77 - Via Dave Malouf on twitter - a concept for hardware dedicated to user researchers. Furthest out concept - useful subvocalization note taking capabilities.

  • Teehan+Lax UX Fund down 31.67% - Since I blogged about it a couple weeks ago, the UX fund has slid almost another 10%. Ouch. More telling, its slide has closed the gap with the DOW and NASDAQ 100, erasing the substantial cushion of better returns and lower losses that design offered investors.
  • metacool: What is design thinking? - Video from Roger Martin discussing design thinking, courtesy of Diego Rodriguez.

  • Draft-Business-Model-Manual.pdf - Alex Osterwalder's draft Business Model Manual (pdf). Smart stuff.
  • Online Communites and Their Impact on Business - Rubicon Consulting releases a 37 page report on the impact of online communities and social networks on business. I can see Harry Max's fingerprints…good stuff, particularly for decision makers who don't see the importance of online engagement.

  • Japanese Streets - Japanese street photography looking at trends and youth culture.
  • See Steve Jobs share an internal presentation - 1991 video 'chalk talk' with Steve Jobs at NeXT talking about the market, using the whiteboard to underline his ideas. Great to see his thought process and presentation style as he outlines the market.

Buggy del.icio.us link posting Comments Off

Sorry for the recent buggy delicious link posts - I’ve been manually formatting them by stripping escape characters, but the last couple days have a new wrinkle - the actual URL isn’t included somehow in the post…thanks for the folks who’ve pinged me about it.

Time to look at postalicious….

Pragmatic writing needs Concept, Story, and Method 0

I’ve been thinking about writing, conference presentations, etc. and realized that the articles, books, and talks that I enjoy the most have a rhythm that blends Concept, Story, and Method (Dave Gray might suggest Visual as a fourth tinker toy; I’m on the fence there). So with those building blocks, then you can start to graph your own writing, sessions, or others’ and see how it looks - something like this:

Pragmatic writing rhythm
