IDEA 2006 Conference

I’m at the IDEA 2006 conference, and it’s tackling important issues in coping with the onslaught of information in today’s world. The location is the Rem Koolhaus designed Seattle Public Library with its spiralling ascension of stacks and information visualization of books getting checked out. Favorite topics so far:

  • Linda Stone on continuous partial attention and the inflection of social values to protection, security, participation, and authenticity. Lunch with Linda was a treat.
  • Jake Barton, Local Projects, on mediated storytelling. Amazingly evocative, and confirms that narrative transcends so many things.
  • Fernanda Viegas‘ work on data visualization, particularly Manyeyes, a visualization tool for social information literacy

Have met somc cool people and reconnected with friends - my quick lunchtime chat with Bruce Sterling was an inspiring highlight, and hopefully dodged total fanboy stuttering.
